Is there any way to open the file and see the exact settings used for the ripple (amplitude, period, angle, phase shift, etc.)?? I may have applied a ripple effect on top of a ripple effect but don’t know. Just trying to access the filter settings used. ......

I would say chances are next to zero.

If it is a recent edit then the settings might be in the filter history

If by any slim chance you used layer effects (fx) and kept them, saving your work as Gimp 3 .xcf file. Then you can open the fx in the text layer and see what was used.
