searching gimp brushes?
#1
I've been using Gimp for a very long time and seen it go through a lot of changes. This recent version has some nice changes like the unified window. So glad they fixed that. But some other things seem to have gotten truncated or maybe they were add ons? I seem to remember that I was once able to search brushes and actually find them easily. No longer can I search effectively, and the dropdown is so small now (not the icons, the dropdown on the brush toolbox) that I cant find anything without a hassle. I have a ton of brushes too. Is there a way to edit this somehow or resize the dropdown so i can actually read the brush names? What happened to grouping? maybe I'm remembering an add on or something, but since Gimp was updated there's a lot of functionality I'm missing and its killing my workflow because I have to troubleshoot things I shouldn't have to when there's an update. This is exactly why i work mostly on my tablet and import the psd to Gimp

Can anyone help me figure out how to fix this? I want either the brushes to be completely searchable, or the dropdown to be wider so i can see the full brush name  Angry

There are similar posts in other places. Usually due to an upgrade to a 4K monitor where the default Gimp appears small, sometimes just a personal preference.

The basics: Gimp toolbox icon size can be adjusted from Edit -> Preferences example: https://i.imgur.com/PN7yFgF.jpg

Menu text and other icons are changed by editing the theme gtkrc file. Thankfully there is a plugin to help:
see: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-UI-fon...7#pid22487 that has a link to the download on gimpchat.com. Put the plugin in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins. Find it in the Gimp Windows menu

Brush are filtered by folder name. Put your collections as folders in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\brushes

I can demo that in a short three minute video: https://youtu.be/6Na2txjL4RM

..and of course I forgot to demo the docks menu, that little left pointing arrow where the size and style are set: https://i.imgur.com/PQI4uvt.jpg

Thank you for the pointers.

i will definitely follow the links and give the plugin a try!

for now i've been busy with other related stuff so this is something i will have to get to later.

i have had the same monitor for years so it's not the monitor, but the program has changed a little since i last used it this intensely, which was around 3-4 years ago, and i had everything set the way i like it.

the update has forced me to retool everything all over.
