trying to edit text in image

Cursor turns into this 'brush' and can't get rid of it.  New to Gimp and want to edit images to get acquainted.   Tried using the toolbox and clone tool give me this.   Just can't go back to a plain cursor.  Cntrl-Z doesn't help.
