Why did this GIF file get so big? |

A Fiverr guy created a GIF for me, 4.3 MB.
The free GifViewer program broke it down into individual...
612 frames, and a sum total of 61 MB.
Why do the parts add up to so much bigger than the original?
I didn't like the fact that 20 frames were used for some scenes,
instead of just One frame each, with a longer duration.
I deleted some frames, then GIMP adjusted the Duration of some frames.
Ended up with just 123 frames, of various Durations.
Still, the new GIF is 21 MB. Why so big?
Thanks, people.

new to gimp and image editing in general (aside from basics).
i have discovered a lot of images (cars and sports) which are on slides to be scanned. the slide mounts have some info on the image contents etc.
i would like to add these to the image, when printed probably 8x6, 10x8, 12x10 etc which i understand are common sizes. and for print at 300dpi, the image / document sizes would be 2400x1800 (8x6), 3000x2400 (10x8) and 3600x3000 (12x10) is this correct?
here is an example and would be exactly the thing i'm looking for. https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/car-pres...632551001/
i would like to have a banner at the bottom where i can add in caption info eg the car or sports team / dates etc, and my contact info, and this would be probably take up an inch or so of say an 8x6 inch print if the example is anything to go by.. (i do plan to print them like the example too).
my questions are
1. how can i do this, in general, as i say im new to gimp / beyond basics.
2. can it be done so the banner is a template and i then just drag and drop in the main image and change some text on the caption (some info will be constant eg my contact info), and then print, i presume i would need a template for each print size i would like to have.
hope i've explained it well! thanks in advance.

Thumbnail images for .xcf files in MacOSX Finder |

I am a new Gimp 2.10 user (refusing, after getting a new Mac running OSX 12.4 Monterey, to pay Adobe for annual licence fees for a Photoshop program I already own).
I need to save .xcf files with an icon/thumbnail so that I can see what is in them in the Finder. All I see is the Gimp Fox?+Paintbrush icon. This does not happen with .pdf, .psd or .tif files saved from any other program, but still happens when I export to .tif from Gimp.
I can find no option within the Gimp Preferences. And web posts on plugins etc were not clear.
Advice?

Hi all,
Eons ago I used Adobe PS and could do the basic task but have not been able to figure out how to do this in GIMP.
I need to do what I assume is a simple copy of one image and past it on top/into another.
What I need to do is take image of bat call pulses and paste it into another blank image with frequency lines as the background.
This show predicted call frequencies for species not yet known.
Seems the repetitive task will serve my needs but clearly I need a bit of hand holding to master the few steps. I can not seem to find the correct menu items to select and complete this task. Once I have the steps I should be able to repeat them as often as necessary.
Tnx for anyone willing to assist. As the old saying goes"It is never too late to teach an old dog new tricks...it =just takes longer!" ;-)
Cheers
Bat Dude
