Introduction with question
#1
Hello everyone!  I'm new to Gimp!  Been using Corel Draw for over 20 years now and am retired from the graphics field. I'll be 70 in July so be gentle with me please! I'd like to get to know how to use Gimp to pass my time and have been watching videos on how to do things.  I'm very excited to try my luck with Gimp.  I've started by downloading Gimp 3.0.2 and wanted the G'mic and Resynthisizer plugins too.  Well That didn't go to well. I'm not sure if these are compatible.  Neither plugin works on my Windows 11 PC running a Intel Ultra 9 processor with 32 gig of ram.  I've followed the videos from downloading to installing and everything seems to go well but when I try to access the plugins they are not there in filters. Soooo, I'm here to learn as much as I can from all of you.  Please don't yell at me for posting this if it is in the wrong place...just point me in the right direction please.  Thanks Robbie

The plugin interface has changed between Gimp 2.10 and Gimp3. Most plugins written for 2.10 have to be converted to work with Gimp3, so when you download things if they don't explicitly state Gimp3 support, they are probably meant for v2.

There are Gimp3 versions of GMIC and resynthesize.

To get you started.

The Gimp gmic plugin is straight forward. On the gmic download page there is a section for Gimp3 Get the installer. https://www.gmic.eu/download.html
Which at the moment is the file gmic_3.5.4_gimp3.0_win64.exe  about 40 MB

When you run the installer, it is worth noting the installation folder, that is where your plugins go.
It is a hidden folder, C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\3.0\plug-ins

Resynthesizer is more hands on. The Window version for Gimp 3.0 comes from gimpchat.com but the required files I have zipped and attached.  Unzip and put in the same folder as gmic. With Gimp 3.0 plugins go in their own folders. The installations looks like this:

I have checked and they do work. Win11 / Gimp 3.0.2-1

Attached Files
.zip   resynth-3-win64.zip (Size: 132.92 KB / Downloads: 6)

Thanks so much for your replies.  I have done that and upon restarting Gimp I get an error that it is looking for the libgimp-3.0-0.dll file then throws a code (0xc0000022).  I'll try reinstalling Gimp and see if that helps.

That looks like the error you get installing installing the gmic_gimp_qt for Gimp 3.0 in a Gimp 2.10 installation.
see; http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=...a3#p296273

There are different plugins for Gimp 3.0 and Gimp 2.10.x It is not a problem if you want to use Gimp 2.10 - I use it all the time

Ok everyone...since I've had so much trouble with Gimp 3 I uninstalled and downloaded Gimp 2.10.  I have Resynthisizer working on it..now when I try to install G'mic it seems to install but when I start Gimp I get the error message.. gmic_gimp_qt.exe - system Error.  The code execution cannot proceed because libnghttp3-9.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.  Well...Ive reinstalled several times but still get the same error.  Anybody have any ideas? I made sure the G'mic I downloaded was for Gimp 2.10 but after the files were extracted that .dll file was not there.

Difficult to determine what is going on. It might be something like your Win 11 anti-virus being over zealous or an earlier version of Gimp 2.10

However, same as for Gimp 3.0, for Gimp 2.10 you need to use compatible files.

Since you have re-installed several times, make sure you are using the latest Gimp 2.10.38 rev. 1 from gimp.org (avoid using MS store).
https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.10/win...etup-1.exe

Then the gmic plugin for Gimp 2.10 from gmic.eu from the Gimp 2.10 section.
https://www.gmic.eu/get_file.php?file=wi..._win64.exe

Resynthesizer for Windows / Gimp 2.10 is from this post
https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Resynt...7#pid12687
Get the resynth-partha.zip file.

This a 4 minute video installing gmic and resynthesizer in Win11 / Gimp 2.10 Hate youtube these days so on my cloud storage (for a while) Hope it helps.

Note: If you have uninstalled (or not) Gimp 3.0 the Gimp 3.0 User profile remains. You can delete if you so desire, it has no effect on Gimp 2.10.
