Yes, but It seemed easier to use elliptical select, expand from center, fixed size 100x100, while holding down the shift key as I mouse clicked...then move cursor over the target center, and then 'crop to selection' produced a 100x100 square.
Now, I've changed something, or an upgrade was made, that changed.
I think I can click 1 of the 4 areas around the circle and make the selection square(adding those 4 corner area pixels).

Ellipse select and rectangle select are essentially the same tool. The only difference is that the ellipse one creates the ellipse/circle that fits the rectangle/square.
And in recent Gimp (since 2.10 I think), the crop tool can also apply to the selected layer only, also has an "expand from center" option, and can also enforce a fixed aspect ratio, so that's even less clicking.
