I tried several installations, and either I couldn't get G'Mic-Qt to show up in GIMP or I kept getting error messages. The error always appeared after installing G'Mic-Qt. After a few hours, I just couldn't give up and searched for a portable version of GIMP. Found 'oldergeeks' (like me 
) I downloaded it, installed it, and, relieved, it worked flawlessly. Even all the old plugins and scripts work. Happy days
