Are all the images you work on as small as the clips you post here ?
In the past, (Gimp 2.8 or 2.10) hatching was often done by filling a selection with a pattern. The problem is the pattern size is fixed. The attached is a remake of the AutoCAD patterns in a small size 100 x 100 pix. They are black on transparency and are tilable.
They might be useful sometime. Attached a zip, unzip and put in your Gimp User patterns folder
