The name of the plugin does not matter. Make sure it is executable.
I have a kubuntu 20.04 desktop, I will fire that up and see what works / does not work. Keep visiting.
Rich, it doesn't work. I downloaded the file you provided, marked it as executable, and the Gmic entry under Filters doesn't appear.
If it is renamed to gmic_gimp_qt-292 it does appear but still with errors on a large number of the filters. I even deleted the whole Gimp-AppImage directory and let Gimp rebuild it and tried again completely fresh, thinking maybe some little something was preventing it from properly working.
