I would never advise reinstalling anything. Much better to find out what is going wrong.

Are you still using ubuntu 20.04 ? Gimp 2.10.28 can come from different sources, as a flatpak or from a PPA or you compiled it yourself. Which one?
I have never seen that error message, so more details required.
Is this using resynthesizer to make a pattern or one of the associated python plugins such as heal-selection ?
Image size and precision, a screenshot of the whole Gimp interface might help.
