Cuting out someone

This video just helps to understand the theory. Unfortunately Gimp's scale tool does not work like Photoshop's.

I think your result looks pretty good. Maybe decrease the Saturation of the kid a bit ?

You can do that non-destructively by putting a black layer on top and setting the layermode to 'Saturation'.
Then reduce opacity to manipulate the degree of desaturation you want.
Also limit the desaturation to the boy with a layermask.

Pretty good !

Maybe the reflection of the boy should go to the other side (right) ?

Also the boy is still too crisp compared to the rest of the image, imo.
Maybe try a slight Gaussian Blur of 1-3px ?

Thats too much blur.

Also i meant something different with the shadow. What you did is physically impossible.
What i had in mind is flipping the shadow so it slants to the right, instead of the left.

Since I want him to wear a raincoat, I've decided to change the image to the one I had done of him being composited from another photo. What you think?

The other thing you have been working on looked great ! Why are you going for something else now ?

Because I wanted the raincoat, and I couldn't add it to the other photo.  Plus I still have the other project file saved.  This is a composite for a scene from a private fanfiction I'm writing.

I figured that since ne would be out in the rain, it would make sense to dress for it. I'm also wanting to try to give him that wet look. Is there a way to pull this off in gimp?
