How to add free font to GIMP?

Hi. Very inexperienced user here. I need to write some words in ITC Rennie and make an image out of it, then upload it to a Wix site I operate. I found GIMP online and downloaded it, then downloaded IT Rennie and installed it in the Font Book on my Mac. However, when I open GIMP, I can't find my font on the list of fonts.

For what it's worth, I tried Inkscape right before I found GIMP and the same thing happened. What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.

I'm not going to be of much help here, I'm afraid, being unfamiliar with Mac; my first thoughts are 'can your see the font in any other package?'

I found both a bold and a light 'free' version on various sites. These work with my linux Gimp 2.10.14 so nothing obviously wrong with the files.

OSX, an OS that I have never seriously used and an old VM, so maybe not representitive of up-to-date Mac

Have you tried adding the fonts to the Gimp font folder https://i.imgur.com/Ez2tEfD.jpg and check if they show in Gimp? https://i.imgur.com/PK8I6P4.jpg If they do it might prove something.

I will not comment on DaviesMedia other than frequently gives poor advice on Gimp usage Hope it is better with Mac.

I can't comment on their advice, but DMD technique tutorials are held to be reasonable, therefore I took the risk based on their reputation.

@Rich2005 – before I cause difficulties, is it 'not done' to offer assistance before an admin triage, or similar?

Comment away, providing it does not cause offence (becoming increasing difficult with a PC society) All input is welcome (edit: providing it is sensible)

Rich, I am using macOS Catalina 10.15.13, which I think is pretty up-to-date, so may be different than your experience.

I opened up the GIMP fonts folder and it was empty, I am not sure what that means. How do I add the Rennie font to the folder?

I warned you I am no OSX user The Gimp User profile folders are for resources only used by Gimp so any fonts that go in the font folder are only seen by Gimp. It might prove if the fonts actually work on your system.

The location of these folders varies it seems with OSX versions but you found it. I dumped the font files on the desktop and dragged into the folder in 'finder' (is that the term ???)
