How to copy a temporary edit image with changes to another application?
Posted by: testcb00 - 01-13-2022, 01:40 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (7)

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and my target is to replace my old Photoimpact X3.

My usage is just some simple photo editing like adding an arrow or delete some area of the photo.

However, I found that I cannot copy the (edited?) photo directly.

Here is my photo. My step is to use [Rectangle Select Tool] and click [Delete].
When I use [Rectangle Select Tool] to copy the edited photo to Microsoft Word, I find that the photo is not edited.
Do GIMP have this function of merging change before copy to other application?

Getting a Parsing error in files
Posted by: SarahDalrymple - 01-12-2022, 04:07 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

Hi all,

I installed a bunch of new brushes, patterns and gradients, but they don't show up when I open up GIMP (2.10), and when I go to refresh any of them I keep getting 'fatal parse error in ___ file: Unknown format version' errors. I don't know if this means I just didn't install the files correctly or if the files themselves are not of the correct file type.

The brushes are .abr, the patterns are .pat and the gradients are .grd. I installed them in \users\myanme\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\(brushes OR patterns OR gradients depending on what they are). Can someone help point me in the right direction so I can correct this? Thanks so much in advance!

Installing plug-ins in GIMP 2.10 for Linux
Posted by: branpurn - 01-12-2022, 01:56 AM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (5)

Hello! I am trying to install Ofnuts' wonderful GIMP plugins under an Ubuntu derivative but am not having any luck.

The GIMP folder and its child the "plug-ins" folder are under "~\.config\" these days.

Having placed the *.py file into the "plug-ins" folder, it isn't immediately activated after restarting. Is there a manifest somewhere I need to add it to as well? I saw that hinted at in another thread.

Thanks in advance!

P.S., I don't have a "Python-Fu" console, rather it is "Script-Fu," and the popular command to find the GIMP directory didn't work in "Script-Fu"-- what's the background on that?

  Newer tone-mapping algorithms
Posted by: Selenator - 01-11-2022, 02:29 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I've downloaded GIMP 2.10.30 and there are three tone-mapping algorithms, the latest is of year 2006 by Mantiuk. Which are some modern and better algorithms and how to add them? I have a jpg image that needs tone mapping.

Please, reply in simple words, because I don't even know what tone mapping is. I just click on tools until picture is pretty.

Mantiuk gives a nice result, but the picture looks dirty, and some red, yellow and blue pixels show up. Any newer free online algorithms?

  Opening photos
Posted by: Pete Clegg - 01-10-2022, 11:19 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I'm using Gimp 2.10.30 on a Windows 10 system and having trouble opening images.  They open at seemingly random scales, sometimes tiny on screen and sometimes massively zoomed in.  I can immediately resize them to fill the screen with ctrl+shift+j but still it's a bit annoying and a problem I never had with any previous Gimp version.

Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.

How can I improve text on a yellowed/blotched page?
Posted by: j4nd3r53n - 01-10-2022, 06:49 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I am working on scanning some historical texts, in Chinese - unfortunately the pages are somewhat yellowed and blotched, like the one attached. Is there a easy way to make the background paler - or even completely white - while preserving or darkening the ? I'm preparing the photo for OCR; so far I have only managed to digitalize a minor part of the text.

  Where does it go?
Posted by: sallyanne - 01-10-2022, 07:51 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (10)

The last gimp build I had 2.10.22 had a Raw editing Program already in it. (I don't remember installing one)
I am now using 2.10.30 and it doesn't have any but is telling me I can install RawTherapee or Darktable to open Raws
I have downloaded them...where do I put them?

  Re-installing Gimp 2.10
Posted by: rich2005 - 01-08-2022, 01:43 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (1)

Windows users often seem to re-install Gimp for whatever-reasons Wink often with no result because the user profile remains.
However, sometimes it is necessary, for example, installing Gimp in a different location.
This a pdf walk-through of the stages using the Gimp installer with the Customize option

The pdf , "on the drawing board" a while, but finally got it down to a reasonable size.
Edit: Spot the mistake, fixed now, duplicated graphic, hate these pdfs, sometimes have mind of their own.

  Making PDF
Posted by: Al- - 01-08-2022, 01:14 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

I want to make a PDF with pages of different sizes and I add them as layers to the first page but Gimp crops the ones which are bigger than the first page. How can I do it then?
