Hi 

I have recently scaled up an image produced with Gimp to print 83 x 50cm. I generally produce the image at 50 x 30cm but had a special request for a larger image. 
I've printed at the smaller size and never noticed any problem.. haven't had any similar problem in ten years of producing and printing images. 

I was surprised to find the printed image was larger on the left side than on the right by 3mm. 

I went back and checked the digital image thinking the image must have been distorted by the "unified transform tool" and left short on the right side.. but found on checking that the image completely filled the 83 x 50 rectangle with no visible empty background ? 

We have since printed the same image twice and it is still 3mm short on the right side. 

I am not certain if this problem has originated in Gimp or via the printer software.. I sent the image to a printer as a jpeg and they checked it in PS before printing.  
Are there any known issues with certain printers.. or image file formats ? 

Has anyone encountered this issue before ?

And if they did how did they resolve it ?

Is it possible to have file-glob traverse sub-folders?
If not, are there any online examples you can point me at where someone has implemented a work-around?

I am a dentist   and use photography clinically to record disease, to plan treatment and to show people before and after photographs. I would also like to start using some of my portfolio to educate other patients and to promote my work. Getting reproducible colours between photos is extremely important, especially if I am doing tooth whitening for a client or taking a shade for my laboratory technician to make a crown in a matching colour!

I have not used any photo editing software before so am a complete new learner. I need to decide which program to buy and my editing needs are very basic: cropping, correcting white balance, and mirroring will be 95% of what I will do. I do know from courses that Photoshop has a function to use 17% grey card in a photograph to set the white balance for a whole collection of photos. Does Gimp have this function to use grey card as well and if so how do I do it? This will really help me decide which software to buy.

I've created a custom brush of some grass blades.  They are full color.  Because they are so small (sub pixel), it's essential that they have transparency in order to blend properly when I paint them.

However, it appears that transparency is ignored when I use the brush with the Pencil tool.   It works fine when I use the Brush tool.  However, there's a problem with that.

The Brush tool appears to do some kind of subpixel sampling in an attempt to make a brush appear to be centered exactly where you click.  This means if you created a brush image that needs to be stamped so that exact per-pixel detail matches the brush as it was originally created, you can't.  It gets distorted along the edges.  Sometimes, the distortion is quite significant.

On the other hand, the pencil tool acts like an exact pixel-per-pixel map that "stamps" the exact brush shape without any distortion or alteration. I need the exact pencil mapping, but it appears to ignore transparency in the brush image.

Is there a configuration setting I'm missing?

I looked in:
C:\Users\James\AppData\Local\GIMP\2.10

But there's no Brushes folder.  Is it somewhere else?  I just need to know how/where to save my custom brushes.

I'm moving from Photoshop, because I'm sick of the fact that Photoshop won't let me create full color brushes to simulate stamping with tranparency.  It was GIMP or Paint Shop Pro, so I'm trying GIMP first.

When I do this via "Open as layers" it comes out black and white. 

How do I do it properly?

Greetings.

Seems like a basic function and run into it a lot but haven't found a tutorial yet. Basically, I want to make a ringed object thinner so it doesn't lose its size, just needs to be narrower. Is there a way to do this?

i am using gimp 2.8 on windows xp sp3.

i have no problem installing using and understanding gmic-gtk.

however i have tried everything suggested to get gmic-qt working but cant get it to load and appear??

i have tried installer and zip package.

i have tried to include screen shots.

any help is appreciated...

I am switching over to Gimp from another edit program and could use a little help. I take photographs of rescue dogs to post onto adoption websites, mostly for Labs4rescue. The main thing I do is to remove the leashes from the photo and do a little cropping. I can't figure out how to do that on this program. I can not access the user manual it says that something crashed and to restart my computer. That didn't help. In the previous program I used, I would put the cursor on an area that I wanted to copy and then use the brush to cover over the leash. This worked great. Can anyone teach me how to do this on Gimp?
