How to get Gimp to detect a Bamboo Ink stylus on the New Surface Pro?
Posted by: MrImpossible - 09-19-2017, 02:27 AM - Forum: Windows - No Replies

Ok, so firstly I realize that It would be infinitely easier to simply utilize the lovely pen that Microsoft designed for the surface pro. Unfortunately it is backordered for a couple weeks at least, which leads me to my question.  Do you guys have any idea how to get Gimp to detect a bamboo ink stylus as an input device on the 'New' surface?  The pen works beautifully with the built in sketching applications, I just cant get gimp to see it.  I also cant seem to find the N-trig drivers for surface, not sure if that's still a thing or not.  Any help would be greatly appreciated Smile

Losing Clipboard Gadget after Using Gimp
Posted by: Lady Fitzgerald - 09-18-2017, 11:58 PM - Forum: Installation and usage - Replies (3)

I'm on windows 7-64 and Gimp 2.8.22. For a couple of years or so, I've been using a gadget called Clipboarder installed from 8 GadgetPack Tools without any problems but a problem has crept up that I believe is being caused by Gimp.

To save storage space, I have been removing all my movie DVDs and BDs and the cover art from their individual cases, scanning the cover art and the discs, then storing the disks in CD/DVD storage cases. The scans I've been converting to multipage .tif images.

Up 'til a couple of days ago, I had been using Gimp to rotate and color correct the scans of the discs without any problems. I would drag the image to Gimp, rotate it (it's far easier to rotate the image straight than to try to align the disc perfectly straight in the scanner), then use the auto correction in Levels in Colors to correct the colors I'm color blind so auto correct is a lot safer for me). After correction, I would overwrite the original image, then delete the image in Gimp.

When creating the multipage .tif, after typing in the movie title for the filename, I would copy the title so I wouldn't have to retype it in the file's Title tag. A couple of days or so ago, Clipboarder stopped showing what I had copied into Win 7's clipboard. After fooling around some, I suspected it might be Gimp causing the problem so I would copy something after each step I took when using Gimp to correct the disc scans. Clipboarder would continue to work fine until I Closed All in Gimp after overwriting the original file; then Clipboarder would no longer show any new additions. Eventually, after shutting down Gimp, I would get Clipboarder back.

What's even more baffling is I haven't made any changes to my workflow or any program settings so why would this problem suddenly crop up and what can I do to fix it? This is driving me nuts!

  Creating a car livery
Posted by: Martini - 09-18-2017, 09:36 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

Hi!

I'm buying a new single seater with a friend and we have to choose a livery. Since it's wintage (although it's new) and many colours are already taken, we thought we'd take inspiration from the JPS Lotus 72:

Our car looks like this :

Or this, this or  this.

So, the paint would be black.

On the nose cone, there are scoops extracting the air from the radiator, I'd like to have a gold trim around those three.
A golden nose.
A golden triangle/trapezium on the side (of the nose cone, still).
A golden circle around the maker's emblem (Crosslé).
The numbers will be the number Pi.

The "Classic Racing School" lettering will remain in gold.
The wheels will be completely black with a golden trim around. Or with the same amount of black and the whole polished aluminium in gold (better, just not sure it's doable).

The side will display this:

Bonus, it would be even better with the headrest (which can be seen here) in dark brown (like Havana)

Before asking for your help, I made a mock-up:

Please don't laugh too hard  Sad
It gives a decent idea of what we want but looks terrible and I'm more or less ashamed to send it to the car company.

I don't know if it's out of the line to ask that here but I'd very much appreciate if someone could have a look and maybe propose something a little bit more refined  Smile

Thanks guys

How can i launch a gimp command line from a python script ?
Posted by: alvaro562003 - 09-18-2017, 01:46 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (4)

Hello,

From this stackoverflow thread https://stackoverflow.com/questions/4443...mmand-line , i extract this command line:

Code:
gimp-console -idf --batch-interpreter python-fu-eval -b "import sys;sys.path=['.']+sys.path;import batch;batch.run('./images')" -b "pdb.gimp_quit(1)"

It worls perfectly well.

Now, i would like to run this command from a python script, usually i use subprocess.Popen....but it does not work and i get this message:
"batch command experienced an execution error"

How can i launch the gimp command line from a python script ?
Thanks

  HOWTO applly merge technique
Posted by: graemev - 09-17-2017, 05:10 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I came across this technique in PS  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv7YP5L-2Zs

In essence it depends on being able to merge pixels from the layer below based on the brightness of the pixel in THIS layer (or the one below)

... hard to explain, the video does it better.

It seems to produce some good effects, I'm struggling with a achieving the same effect in GIMP.

...my best guesses are something like making a mask based on the "level" of one of the images, but this fails to encompass the "gradation" concept

  Similarly named fonts not recognized
Posted by: poymando - 09-16-2017, 06:11 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

Hi Folks!
I just purchased and loaded a new set of cool fonts into GIMP the other day. Unfortunately, four of the fonts have similar names:
HWTAetnaStreamerShadow
HWTAetnaStreamerFill
HWTAetnaStreamerBanner
HWTAetnaStreamerOutline

GIMP is only recognizing "HWTAetnaStreamer" and not the rest of the name. While all the fonts are in the program, only one style shows up. Any way to fix this? I've not had any luck being able to rename the files and have contacted the developer with no luck.
I've attached a screen shot to show what it looks like. I'd love to figure out how to access the fonts I paid for.
Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.
