Tried others - Gimp works great
Posted by: Nateart - 06-12-2017, 03:37 AM - Forum: Gallery - Replies (4)

Having done illustrations for books, magazines, cards, ads, gift products (like puzzles, wall decor) since 1970... I'm simplifying, Gimp does most of the things I did in the past with Photoshop, Corel Painter, etc. with a lot less hassle...

Question Copying to different document without image size change
Posted by: Artist - 06-11-2017, 03:43 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

This is driving me a bit crazy so I hope someone can help.

I'm using the latest version of GIMP. I want to copy a 15cm x 15cm image to a different document. Whenever I do that, it enlarges it massively to about 60cm!!! No problem you might think. Just resize it down again....but no. Whenever I do that, the detail and quality of the image is massively reduced. It definitely does not look like the 15cm image in the first document.

When I click to resize the over-enlarged image, I notice that the resolution has changed from 300 to 72. When I try to change it back to 300 and also choose a dimension of 15cm x 15cm, it won't let me. If I insist on changing it to 300, it decides the image size must be no larger than 3.6cm x 3.6cm! I don't understand why this is happening when I'm pasting an image over to a different document. Is it GIMP? Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening?

Smile Hello everyone, I have the idea of a GIMP new color wheel.
Posted by: SenlinOS - 06-11-2017, 03:38 AM - Forum: Watercooler - No Replies

Tongue  I'm new here.
I designed a new color dialog for GIMP.
It's just a design, I don't know how to program.
The suggestion is here:

  Layers question from newbie
Posted by: lpvmc - 06-10-2017, 07:09 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hi,

In this post (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrVnI3l9fgE), the instructor can move the content of a layer around by clicking the layer, the object on that layer is automatically selected and he can do whatever he wants to with the object: move it, change the size etc.

When I select a layer the object is NOT selected automatically; it is even impossible to select it in whatever way. To move the object around I have to move the whole layer. Furthermore if I want to resize an object, I have to change the scale of the layer, since I cannot select the object itself.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the way things are done in GIMP (2.8.22)

Looking forward to any comments and/or tips.

Kindest regards, Leo.

  qbist
Posted by: dinasset - 06-10-2017, 05:13 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (2)

Hi,
I wanted to try using plug_in_qbist inside a filter (i.e. try to use it non-interactively)
I did some tests, but without success.
The statement pdb.plug_in_qbist (inImage, inLayer) returns an error (RuntimeError: calling error).
I'm using Windows 10, Gimp 2.8.22.
Did someone make use of it? (or can just test now if it works?)
Thanks a lot

change the default export setting of untitled.png
Posted by: Ezz9 - 06-09-2017, 04:42 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I'm hoping this will be easy, but I can't find the info searching the web. So here I am, now on this one.

I would like to change the default export setting of "Untitled.png" to "cover.jpg" and have it export on my desktop.

I clean a lot of album covers for various websites and my music files. This is my go-to name for the covers. From there I move them to the file they belong in. The file name is the info for the cover. So having the same name on the image is not a problem and a must because my music player is set for cover.jpg as a default to pick that cover in the file. It would be nice to have it set at the startup instead of always having to change the first one every time and sometimes forgetting and having a no show named image to get in.

Please KISS "keep is simple stupid"
I'm really not to computer savvy and can get lost in the computer lingo.

Thank you.
