There is a certain type of histogram which shows a very flat graph with few pixels for any tone (light, mid or dark). This type of histogram (shown below) relates to photos with pale/washed-out colours. I have often wondered why this histogram appears to indicate that the photo actually has less pixels than another photo with the same resolution. Shouldn't the histogram show the same number of pixels for any image? I think I am interpreting the information incorrectly and would be grateful for advice on this

I want to make a back ground white (or transparent).

What i have are some warhammer 40k decals from forge world and need to make more of certain types off it.

However once i have scanned it into GIMP it retains the blue back ground with the decals on.

I will need this removing so when i print it on my clear decal paper it comes off 'clear' and not have the blue.

bit hard for me to explain , would be easier if i could post the sheet here but i don't know how too.

I am trying to print from gimp.  When I open my printer driver (Brother MFC-J480DW) and select quality = Best then try to print it prints in Normal mode.  When I open the printer driver again it shows that it has reverted to Normal mode.  I don't have this issue with the printer driver when accessed from other programs.

I am attempting to cut an object out of one picture, paste it onto the background of another picture, and add a drop shadow to make it look more realistic.

The problem is, the drop shadow is not only visible on the edges of the object, the shadow is visible over the object too.

I can't figure out how to move the pasted object forward, over the shadow. When I go Layer>Stack>Raise Layer....Raise Layer is greyed out. 

Right now the object is a "Floating Selection (Pasted Layer)". I tried anchoring it, but "Raise Layer" is still greyed out.

How do I get the drop shadow behind the object Ive pasted onto my picture?

Hello there! Even if I have been using GIMP for a long time, I am totally new to this forum.

I will introduce myself.

I am a boy from Argentina who loves using GNU/Linux and GIMP. I also love animals (Specially cats) and photography.

I started using GIMP for very easy tasks, such as cropping a picture, or making it black/white. But now I have been learning new skills, and I am finally able to make cool pictures.

Before GIMP, I used (Please do not laugh here) Microsoft Powerpoint for editing pictures. But due to its limitations, I searched for an alternative.

Hello there. I am a new member, and I was wondering if it was possible to make a drawing on a wall using GIMP. I searched on Google, but I haven't found any useful answers. Below there is a reference of what I want to do (But virtually, and in a wall):


PLEASE NOTE: The picture is NOT mine, I just found it in Google Images

The reason because I want to do it virtually is because I do not have the materials to draw in the wall in real life.

I need to increase image size without increasing original image, just adding boundaries around the picture. How it can be done with Script-Fu? In GIMP this function is under Image->Canvas size

The old MathMap plugin has largely been superseded by say, gimp-gmic but is still interesting.

One problem with the installer is its age, comes from 2009 and expects Gimp 2.6 not Gimp 2.8

I have removed and re installed gimp 2.8 a few times now, and still, when attempting to load the hue-saturation tool, Gimp will freeze. It thinks like it's loading but does not progress and Gimp no longer responds. I'm using Windows 7 Home premium. Please help.
