Where would I want to look to see such a notification?  Should I watch this Forum?

There should be something here: https://www.gimp.org/news/ but maybe not

Keep an eye on this thread and I will keep you updated. I try out these releases in Windows VM's

edit: and on twitter https://twitter.com/GIMP_Official

I can't open preferences in gimp 2.10.8 and I try to install it again but to no use. Is anyone else getting this problem?

There seem to be problems with the Gimp 2.10.8 32 bit Windows installation. However the Gimp developers are not able to replicate the problem.

example: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/issues/2482

My advice, go back to the previous version Gimp 2.10.6
https://download.gimp.org/mirror/pub/gim...etup-1.exe

and hope that it will be fixed with the next issue Gimp 2.10.10 when it is released.

I tried that but I'm still getting a "not responding" message. Keep in mind that I installed previous Gimp 2.10 programs and they all had the same problem like this one.

Edit: I tried gimp 2.8.22 and still no change so I don't know whats going on. All I really want for the moment is to add fonts to gimps for my thumbnails.

Progressing from the (partially) known problem with Gimp 2.10.8 32 bit and Gimp 2.8.22 not working either.

Then throwing in this:

I wonder what previous versions you used? A good chance it is your Windows installation rather than Gimp.

I can not see any reason why Gimp 2.8.22 should not work. If you still have it installed delete the Gimp profile C:\Users\"yourname"\.gimp-2.8\ Start Gimp to create a new default profile. See if it makes any difference.

An alternative is a portable Gimp with 32 bit support this one from https://samjcreations.blogspot.com/2018/ download http://www.aljacom.com/~gimp/Gimp-2.10.6...-64bits.7z This is a bit of a monster.

or this https://portableapps.com/apps/graphics_p...p_portable which is 32 bit but from memory has issues on a pure 32 bit Windows. Worth a try.

Only the two versions that I used before. I did get my pc fixed so I think that might be the problem. My internet has also been connecting and disconnecting a few times and I think that might just also be the PC as well. I tried protableapps.com and downloaded gimp a while back and tried to use preferences but to no avail.

Edit: Okay so the preference tab opened but when I closed it and tried to do it again It has the same problems as before.
Edit 2 : Okay, so it seems like it takes a while for the preference tab to open up after closing and opening it a few times.

My Clone tool and Healing tool became prohibited in 2.10.8. I rebooted my system, reinstalled Gimp and tried a new image, still no joy. I couldn't get the clone tool to select, I kept getting the prohibited symbol, "circle with a slash"

I googled this problem every which way and couldn't find a solution that applied to me. It seems like this has been a long standing problem as there were many threads with no solution on several GIMP builds.

What finally worked is a Control click while in magnifier mode. All of a sudden whatever setting needed to be set seems to be working. My Clone Tool and Healing Tool are now working once again.

I wish I could tell you what I did to break it in the first place.

I am brand new to GIMP and to this forum, so excuse me if this is not the proper place to post this.

Hello
I have a question about function export as from a png image to bmp (with transparency) image
With version 2.8 I haven't any problem to view the bmp 32 bit image on a TFT display
With version 2.10 the yellow color are converted in grey color.
What's happened with the last version? A bug????
Thank you!
