Filter to enhance the quality of image
Posted by: Stephen Liu - 05-24-2022, 06:11 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (81)

GIMP 2.10.18

The image (.png) attached here was scanned on Smartphone without scan software.  Then I ran "mogrify" (IM command) converting it to positive image.

Code:
$ mogrify -negate image.jpeg

and then I cropped the image running Screenshot on "Image Viewer".

Please advise what filter shall I run to enhance the image quality and to remove its green color.

Thanks

Regards

How can I put an image behind an object in the background?
Posted by: gods10rules - 05-23-2022, 07:58 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (6)

I'm trying to figure out how to but the mermaid behind an object in the background image. I've tried watching YouTube videos, but can't really comprehend them, and they all seem like too much work for something that should be simple.

These two pics are separate layers, there should be and easier way to put an inserted picture, behind an object in the background

For example, I'm trying to put the mermaid behind the chair facing the wall, but a part of the tail is still covering the chair.

Remove path after clicking selection from Path
Posted by: adam - 05-23-2022, 03:23 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I was just wondering if there is a setting to automatically delete / remove the path after clicking "Selection from Path"

Most of the time I create one selection area and then move on to another immediately and the only way I have found to remove the path is to change tool and start again. I would prefer to stay within the path tool creating paths and selections one after the other. Maybe there is a keyboard shortcut I am missing to clear the path and start creating a new path without exiting the tool?

Batch processing of photos on post-editing
Posted by: Stephen Liu - 05-23-2022, 05:15 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (13)

GIMP 2.10.18 on Ubuntu 20.04 desktop

Hi all,

I have hundreds of film negatives to be converted to digitized files.  I have no problem scanning them and saving them on Smartphone (with/without scan software installed) to negative photos.  After downloading them to computer I run following "mogrify" command lines (ImageMagick command) batch converting them to postive photos.

Code:
$ mogrify -negate *.* (convert negative photos to postive)

$ mogrify -negate -rotate 90 *.* (convert negative photos to postive and rotate 90 deg clockwise)

$ mogrify -negate -rotate -90 *.* (convert negative photos to postive and rotate 90 deg counter-clockwise)

$ mogrify -negate -rotate 180 *.* (convert negative photos to postive and rotate 180 deg)
They work for me seamlessly.

Regarding Brightness, Contrast, Hue, Color etc. Can they be processed in batch?

ImageMagicks command;
Code:
$ morgify/convert -brightness-contrast 12x34 *.*
12x13 (value of -brightness-contrast, for example)
able to batch converting all photos but there is no preview.

I found BIMP/DBP plugins for GIMP.  They can perform batch process.

Is there preview provided?
Can they perform batch processing on HUE Color, brightness, contrast, saturation etc. ?

It would be a tedious work to post-editing hundreds of photo, one by one.

OR is there a better solution for me?  Please advise.

Thanks in advance

Regards
SL

  Scale drawing
Posted by: chris64 - 05-21-2022, 11:43 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Sometimes I can't increase the scale of the drawing. Whenever I try, the scale gets bigger but the canvas size remains the same. Why is that? It wasn't always that way. Is there a setting so that the canvas size increases when I increase the scale of the drawing?

  transparent layer - can't fix
Posted by: NOOCH - 05-20-2022, 06:44 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

I create a layer under my text all the time.  then I create a border around the text, or grow the text, and fill in the underneath layer with black --- to outline the text.
all of a sudden today, the outline layer is somewhat transparent.  I can't get a solid black fill.
the opacity meter is 100% and I'm not touching it, and I have an alpha layer....any idea what is going on?  I don't recall changing any other settings and can't really find anything online.

White lines around cut out layers
Posted by: adam - 05-20-2022, 10:59 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

When cutting out a part of a flat image to create a new layer this generates a white line around the new layer. This is particularly noticible if I use paste in place.

I have attached two images before where the image is flat and the next where I have cut out the chair and the footstool. I would expect as the chair and footstool were part of the image before and cutting them out and pasting them in place would still create a seamless image but there are white lines as seen in the second image.

Is there some setting I have not changed that is causing this or something I am doing wrong?

  Bucket Fill - Different Color
Posted by: playah - 05-19-2022, 10:31 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

Hello to everyone

I am not an expert user with graphics editors but i am facing a newbie problem.

I 'm using bucket fill to change the color of a selected area with a specific Hex Color.

My problem is that in some .png(s) the bucket is working correctly but in other .png(s) the bucket is changing the color to
a different color of my choice ( grey ).

What i have to do to prevent this ?

Thank you.

How to make a font thicker?
Posted by: Borracha22 - 05-19-2022, 08:47 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (6)

Hi, I just need to get my font a little bit thicker/fuller but bold just gets it too dense. I got the font from another image but when I use it gets way too thin, but bold doesn't help me either. I'm using the font "Good Vibrations", the cursive version.
