Im not a designer but our art teacher has told us that if we are interested in doing art for a job we should get GIMP. But a friend of my dad says this is bad advice and I must learn to use Illustrator.

What do you think is this true. Will I able to make the kind of things that I want to with GIMP. 

Also I think Illustrator is pretty expensive and I don't think my parents would get it for me.

I need some help. Would it be possible to make everything black and white besides the butterfly? Can you please offer some suggestions or do it for me?

I have been trying to put together a simple image that will end up 190mm in width using the Guides. I need to place vertical guides 10mm , 25mm, 30mm, and the next 7 at 17mm. I have tried to create a new image the exact length that would be required, and tried to add the guides. I start from the L/H side and all of the guides are measured from the L/H side except I add the additional length each one. When I check with the measuring tool, and when I look at the measurements on the bottom of the screen they are nothing like what I have put in. I have used, Pixels, and MM and CM, but I cannot get this one to work. I have looked for a Tutorial on this, but cannot find one to answer my questiions. This is not the first time this particular task has got me very frustrated. I have also tried using the measuring tool but this does not seem to help.

I can't draw a color. When I try the opposite color comes out. (kinda but not really) That's because the color that comes out depends on the colors of the layers underneath. For example I tried to draw a white rectangle but it instead the rectangle became several colors. Some parts are blue, green, white, black, brown, and purple.

All I want to do is to add 2 images to an A4 page one above the other.

I have opened a blank page and one image both as layers but I am unable to change the size of the image to fit the A4 and move it into position?

Help would be appreciated.

I wonder if one can use gimp to change a colour intensity along stroking a path depending on the length of the path : from zero saturation on the start of the path to full saturation at the end of the path.

I was wondering about an emoji with a can in his hand downing it. Unfortunately my sketching skills can be assumed as less than poor. 

My approach would be like putting layers of already existing emojis and a can together so that the style corresponds to the style already applied within WApp emojis.

Any hints are highly appreciated ?

After installing gimp 2.10.28 I get an error with GMic-Qt (see image). Is a clean install from gimp and GMic-Qt the only way to solve the problem? I have already done a clean install from GMic-Qt but the problem still exist.  
   
Translated (my windows10 OS is Dutch) : Entrypoint from procedure _ZdaPv not found in DLL-file D:\GMic_gimp_qt\Qt5Gui.dll.
I have done a clean install in the folder that GMic_Qt initially suggested (C: drive) but I get the same error.

In GIMP preferences I always set my mouse scroll to change brush size relative (by percent).
When I go to:
Preferences > Input Devices > Input Controllers > Mouse Wheel > Main Mouse Wheel > Configure Input Controller > Scroll Up > Select Controller Event Action,
I set it to:
Tool's Size: Increase Relative.

Analogously, I do with Scroll Down, to decrease tool size.

Thing is, it changes the tool size twice, so 100%. I'd love to be able to change my tool's size only by 50%.
Is it possible?
