Image Menu Confusion |

I don't know if this happens to anybody else, but when I try to draw or hold my drawing pencil a circle appears on screen. The circle fills up, and a bar comes up. I think it's called an Image Menu, but it has options that you can click. However, I don't really need this. Is this because of the type of drawing pencil I have, or is it just a part of GIMP? And if so, can I disable it somehow?

'Image -> Guides' not available |

I've got 2.10.20 installed on Win7 64-bit laptop. Was following along with a typically great 'Davies Media Design' Youtube tutorial when he selected 'Image/Guides/New Guide (by percent)'. That's when I realized I do not have a 'Guides' selection on my 'Image' menu. I installed 2.10.22 but it is the same. Made sure 'View/Show Guides' was checked in case the menu item was dependent on it, no change.
Thoughts?

Resize canvas while working |

Today I was making a digital notice. The work I did took the whole scene because I was using a wallpaper as base/background. At one point, I could no longer add text inside the background/canvas and would happily wish for some extra space at top or bottom. I remember reading somewhere that we can resize canvas in GIMP. But I am not sure whether it is possible in 2.10.20 and while we are already working full canvas. Any help on this will be great.

Hi Team,
Is there any option to apply the Inverse selection (i.e selecting partial/particular portion of the full page image) in the Gimp application?
Appreciate your valuable response in advance.
Thanks,

hello i,m new to this site so will try to explained as best as i can, i am trying to change the background to a photo but when i put the initial photo up its with the surrounding background {not including the photo background) as Alpha Channel. Should the background be white or some other colour?
Could this be the reason i have problems further down the line when carrying out a relatively straight forward procedure?.
