Looking to get a hold of a plugin
Posted by: ThimbleFire - 09-12-2018, 09:42 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hi, I've been following along with a tutorial and I'm right at the end, all I need is a plugin called 'Fuse Layers', but I can't get a hold of it since Gimp's plugin site went away.

I'm completely new to Gimp and don't know if there are any alternative plugins or features that merge multiple layers into a single spritesheet.

It's pretty unlikely, but if anyone has a download of Fuse Layers I'd be really grateful if they'd share it.  Heart Or if anyone can offer an alternate solution (that doesn't include manually dragging them into position), that would be great.

Foreground Select Tool -> Engines Inactive
Posted by: nelo - 09-12-2018, 07:11 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (2)

Hello all,

I wonder why in Gimp 2.10.6 / flatpak ( and previous Gimp 2.10 s) I cannot choose the "engine" when in foreground select.
What prerequisites are necessary for that? Special kind of photo? Missing libraries?

(Linux Mint Mate 18.3)

  Image and transparency issues
Posted by: al.da.drone - 09-12-2018, 01:57 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (6)

Hi there all ,  I am wondering ( screen shot attached  ) if there is a fuctionon Gimp that will put all four logos in the circle to be exactly the same size.
Also the band logos that I have used are off Google and I have used the magic wand fuzzy selection tool to remove the backgroud to make them transparent. The problem is that they aren't the best. Is there a better way of removing the background simply...

Thanks for your time.

I have 2.10 with windows 10. I have a problem with the text not showing up on the screen when I log in to Gimp. The text across the top, (File, Edit, etc) is fine, but when you click on one of these the block comes up but there are only small squares showing, no text. Any suggestions?

[n00b] how would you do this shoreline?
Posted by: jhoo - 09-11-2018, 06:53 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

getting back into mapmaking, using an app called HexKit. normally it's a nice speedy way to bang a map together because the tiles come pre-made and you're spared a bunch of techy details.

that said i've found that i want/need to make some tiles of my own for a bit of geography specific to my own world.
that has me wondering how i would do shorelines in GIMP.

here's an example from an excellent tile pack called HexMarch:

[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=110050&d=1536597366]

if you zoom in on that you can see the way he's done shorelines:

[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=110051&d=1536597594&thumb=1]

i've got water tiles to use as background, and the land areas that i have cut my basic coastline from but it's that transition area that i'm really wondering about, that land-to-water area that i think looks quite good.

so, GIMP n00b that i am, i'm wondering "how do i do that?"

  Export As....options
Posted by: Stephen_A - 09-11-2018, 02:06 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hi people
Just installed 2.10. Seems nice. Just tried exporting a pic as .jpg and .png. I noticed that there were no options to choose the file type. However simply changing the file extention in the 'Name' seems to have achieved this. Is this the new standard?
Many thanks.

I'm trying to take a picture from a SNES game to upscale and use elements of it like take the chat window borders and use them on my desktop/videos.

So I put SNES9x to 1x size, take a picture of the screen, crop out the window boarders and the screen itself looks really good, I can zoom in all the way and the pixels are sharp. I scale it up to where the height is 720(for a 720p display) and it still looks good, 1 pixel turns into multiple pixels but still staying sharp, what I want. I tired exporting it as a .png, .bmp, .jpeg, and when I import it to any other program and stretch it it gets all fuzzy.

Is there a way to save it that when stretched with keeping it's aspect ratio the pixels will stay sharp?

Thanx,
Stan

  [Noob] Blending
Posted by: JosephBw - 09-09-2018, 05:00 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (2)

Running: GIMP 2.10.6

Upon watching a video on Youtube about creating a flare in GIMP, I came across a snag when using blending modes other than "Normal." The video explained that Screen blending changes opacity based on the brightness of pixels in a layer. However, in practice, this was not at all what happened.

Here's what I'm trying to do: get rid of the darkest pixels in a picture, leaving them transparent, while keeping the brightest ones.

When the Background layer's colour was black or white, every blending mode affected the image the same, changing the transparency of each pixel at the same rate regardless of its brightness. When the background layer was transparent, every blending mode other than "Normal" just made the image layer invisible regardless of the percentage I'd set the Opacity slider. Honestly, I don't really know what to do here. I'm kinda getting worked up about the whole thing. I know I'm a noob, I've looked everywhere, and even though it seems straightforward I can't seem to get the thing to work.

Trouble erasing all colors.. Defaults to alpha = 0 instead...
Posted by: JK0012 - 09-08-2018, 11:40 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (9)

Hi All,

I am attempting to make a splatmap for a game. It reads all the channels. So, if Alpha = 0, but RGB = XXX, it will read the RGB color. I need to zero out all channels. Not just make the alpha channel 0.

Somehow, it works for one of my images, so I know at one point I had it working properly. I am not sure how I have messed up the eraser.  Confused  It not longer resets the color channels. It only makes Alpha = 0 causing total transparency, but the RBG values are still there.

Appreciate any guidance.

Thanks!
