(Noob) Flood Fill "similar colors" dynamically so I don't have to ctrl-Z and redo?
Posted by: tgm1024 - 09-08-2018, 06:44 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Gimp 2.10.6 / Linux Mint x64 18.3 / MATE

Brief:
Can I do a flood fill with similar colors but see the results as I slide the bar (dynamically)?

TL;DR:
When I use the bucket pouring flood fill, I'm routinely using the option to fill similar colors.  But this can be a dicey proposition with most images, and if I'm not super careful, I will end up with a flood-leak all over the place.

The way I've been managing this is this:

  1. Try a percentage
  2. See it be not be right
  3. Undo
  4. Rinse/Lather/repeat as needed at step 1.
Is there a way to do this dynamically so that I can see a before shot and dynamic after shot so I can just move the slider and see the results "right away"?

THANKS!

  Gimp does not start
Posted by: jkanev - 09-07-2018, 05:32 PM - Forum: Linux and other Unixen - Replies (1)

Recently I've updated to Gimp 2.10. First time I tried it started, I selected a jpeg to open, then it hang (with no image shown and the file open dialog disabled). I vaguely remember an error output on the command line, complaining about missing "Python" (which is weird, because I have Python installed). After killing the software I tried again, this time no window came up at all. I've removed my .gimp folder, removed /etc/gimp, uninstalled gimp and all libraries and re-installed them again, same result. There's no difference whether I try from the command line, or from the KDE Gui.

Each time I try to start gimp from the command line, no output is shown at all, not even with --verbose. When I Ctrl+C, I get "Segmentation Fault".
After starting gimp, there are four gimp threads present. That's it, no window, no command line output, nothing. No gimp.

Does any of you have an idea what else I could try?

I'd appreciate any kind of help.
All the best, Jacob.

(gimp --version gives 2.10.6, I'm on Debian Linux, testing (1 SMP Debian 4.17.17-1 (2018-08-18)), and I'm using KDE/Plasma.)

Hi! I'm new to GIMP and I'm trying to achieve this neon light effect as if neon light is shining on to someone in a dark room like in this movie poster I attached. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Newbie Needing Help with Text to Path
Posted by: AndyBurger - 09-06-2018, 11:26 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Hi everyone, I have just started using GIMP 2.10 and I'm trying to send a design to POD vendor. They say to outline the font before sending it and I'm confused. I highlighted the text and selected "text to path." Now what? I see the outline if I select the path and it goes away if I deselect it. I need to export the file as PNG. Do I merge all visible layers and then export as PNG? Do I need to merge the paths also.  I have one file that I exported as PNG that shows the outline and one that doesn't. Neither of the mockups are showing the outline so I don't know which one is right or if any are right.

Can someone outline the steps to saving this file? Am I even outlining the font correctly? I've Googled and YouTube'd myself to death and can't find anything on this. Thank you for any help.

  Flatpak folder questions
Posted by: mholder - 09-06-2018, 11:15 PM - Forum: Linux and other Unixen - Replies (14)

Where is this?  In preferences it claims the folder is in:
Home->.var->app->org.gimp.GIMP->config->Gimp->2.10

But I cannot open that place on my file browser.  I can as far as Home->.var->app->org.gimp.GIMP->config->Gimp
But there is no 2.10 folder.
Gimp cannot see anything that I place in there.  How in the world can I edit files like devicerc?

  Automatic align layers
Posted by: einstein - 09-06-2018, 11:07 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hi!

Quite some time ago someone aksed for a tool like PS "Automatically align image layers" - an 'intelligent' tool that would scale, rotate and perspective match layers, basing on their content. I coulnd't open any of the links posted in that thread:
http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=5153

Is there such a script available for Windows?

  Python Plug In file-heif-save
Posted by: Julio85 - 09-06-2018, 10:11 AM - Forum: Scripting questions - Replies (6)

I´m trying to use that Python PlugIn and it doesn´t work, maybe I´m doing something wrong or introducing wrong parameters.
I need an example to make it work.

I´m using the last version GIMP 2.10.6
pdb.file_heif_save(image, drawable, uri, raw_uri, quality, lossless)

Thanks in advance.

  Gimp 2.10.6 appimage?
Posted by: mholder - 09-06-2018, 10:11 AM - Forum: Linux and other Unixen - Replies (4)

Is there a 2.10.6 appimage anywhere?  The latest I can find is 2.10.5.  I have issues with Flatpak:  It says I already have 2.10.6 installed, but it is 2.8, and I don't know how to remove it.  When I try to start Gimp with Flatpak it starts 2.8
