How do I make a cross with rounded corners?
Posted by: simon - 03-04-2018, 10:52 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

How do I use Gimp to make a cross image (a large plus sign), with the corners rounded, not just the 8 outermost corners, but the 4 inner corners as well?

How to install GIMP for portable usage?
Posted by: ajax - 03-04-2018, 01:39 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (11)

For Windows computers GIMP is available as a Portable APP but only for a stable version.  Insofar as this is my preferred method of installation/usage I'd like to make my own portable installation on an external disk drive for a newer/development version.

I've been able to run the installer and choose a target location on the external drive.  This has the affect of locating the program files where I want them.  Unfortunately, when GIMP executes it creates a bunch of folders for persistent data on the path "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.9" which is most undesirable.

Insofar as the Portable Apps folks are able to change this I thought I should also be able to do that as well.  The question is how?

How to merge parts of an image aligned to their edges?
Posted by: felixcra - 03-03-2018, 09:03 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

Consider the following image as an example:

What is the best way to merge the upper and the lower part together?

Edit: It might be better visible what I need if you have a look at the imgur image instead of the embedded image here, as there you can clearly see the borders of the parts I want to merge.

  alpha to selection and text
Posted by: alin33 - 03-03-2018, 08:50 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

I'm applying alpha to selection to text and fill the text with a gradient.I have noticed that after applying alpha to select the text loses his text attributes -usually I'm doing text to path cause I need the text layer to be regular layer-but after alpha to selection I don't have the text layer to path option-I need the final result -regular layer-Does the alpha to selection made it regular layer and not text permanently?

Export non square or rectangle image
Posted by: Ace71425 - 03-03-2018, 05:13 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

So im looking to export an image that is a triangle...easy enough to do with a transparent background and it looks like you have a triangle...but im my case I need the dimensions of the picture to fit the triangle perfectly not be a triangle within a square or rectangular transparent dimension...it's kind of like I'm looking for an option of setting the image to be width, height, and diagonal or something like that. Thanks!

What should be expected from "Edit Metadata"?
Posted by: ajax - 03-02-2018, 08:15 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (5)

One of the things I've been looking forward to is improvement in the handling of metadata by GIMP 2.10.  When trying to invoke "Image>Metadata>Edit Metadata" on GIMP 2.9.8 I receive an error saying that the plugin crashed (see attachment for what is actually displayed).

My research led to some disclaimers saying that some plugins may not work on 64bit computers.  However, as far as I can tell Version 2.9.8 is only supplied in 64bit  form.  Does this mean that plugins included in the 64bit distribution only work on 32bit computers which, of course, makes them unusable because this version of GIMP doesn't work on 32bit computers unlike prior 32bit versions which would work on either 32bit or 64bit computers.

  Missing "Edit with Gimp"
Posted by: Davefaz - 03-02-2018, 08:25 AM - Forum: Installation and usage - Replies (6)

I installed Gimp on a new Win10 PC yesterday, but there is an issue. There is no entry in the Context Menu "Edit with GIMP". I uninstalled the software, installed it again, checked the associations, and not a single typr of graphics file comes up with "Edit with GIMP".
Anyone any clue what's going wrong? Unfortunately if I can't fix this I will have to abandon GIMP. BOO!
