I can't download GIMP! Using High Sierra
Posted by: seanik - 05-11-2018, 01:42 PM - Forum: OSX - Replies (2)

Forgive me if I'm being dumb - just got a new Mac mini recently with High Sierra, and when I go to the download page, it only shows buttons to download for windows or Linux. Any ideas why I can't download GIMP?

  Opening an image problem
Posted by: mes2370 - 05-11-2018, 01:33 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I've used GIMP for a year or so now and just downloaded 2.10. When I go to the File>Open menu and click on my D drive (where I store my photos in a custom folder) the Open window is blank. It does not show any folders, which it did in the previous version (I think it was 2.8 that I was using) that I would then use to navigate to the image I was looking for.

Any help as to why my D drive (and my SSD C drive for that matter) is not showing any folders to access?

Thanks for any advice.

  Calibration
Posted by: gimp-artist - 05-11-2018, 11:06 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

My system is ubuntu 16.04. My video card recognizes what monitor is attached. I checked the "try to use system monitor profile" in the preference.

Do I need to calibrate the display like this attachment is explaining?

GIMP 2.10 on Ubuntu 18.04 Permission Issue Accessing Drive On /media
Posted by: jwvraets - 05-11-2018, 01:15 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (7)

I not-so-happily spent a bit of time trying to find out why I could open a file for editing in GIMP 2.8 just fine but any time I tried to access the same file using GIMP 2.10 I got permission issues that prevented opening the same file. It turns out there is a small change in the way the file install in the Ubuntu Software Centre presents the installation info. It now includes an easy-to-ignore ‘Permissions’ button that you cannot afford to ignore if your files are on a hard drive that is mounted on your media directory. If you click on the Permissions button, 2 ON/OFF buttons are presented. The top button labeled ‘Access files in your home folder’ is set to On by default. The bottom button labeled ‘Read/write files on removable storage devices’ is set to OFF by default but must be changed to ON to access any hard drive (and presumably any other device that mounts on media) for you to get read/write access or even see the associated folders. If you have this problem, simply go back to the Ubuntu Software Centre and change the setting.

How to Install Gimp 2.10 FRESH
Posted by: Dave S - 05-10-2018, 08:44 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - No Replies

I installed Gimp 2.10, but when I tried to run it, I got error messages for procedure entry points could not be found. Some of them were from GMIC. One of them is from Twain.exe.

I uninstalled GMIC, then uninstalled Gimp, then reinstalled Gimp, but I still got the same error messages.

I then re-installed GMIC, but I still got the same error message.

Could someone tell me how to install Gimp 2.10 fresh? Forget about GMIC now. I can re-install it later. But for now, I just want to install Gimp 2.10 without those error messages. Thanks in advance!

  2.10 and HP Spectre x360
Posted by: Cphillips - 05-10-2018, 06:43 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (1)

Contrary to the last version, 2.10 is nearly unusable on an HP Spectre x360 (Windows 10, 64 bit, screen res 3840 x 2160)  and wondered if anyone else is having issues/solutions. Too many issues to list... layers, colors, docking, resizing screen/image, etc. Trying to narrow down the source - Windows version or something in configuration, general incompatibility, etc. Thanks! C.

  Installing plug-in
Posted by: gimp-artist - 05-10-2018, 01:38 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (5)

I'm trying to install resynthesizer plugin cause gimp doc is talking about it. I downloaded it and extracted it. I changed chmod appropriately. I placed the extracted folder into the gimp plugin folder of which location is indicated in the preference. I restarted the gimp application. Then no luck. What do I missing here?

opening from and saving to local folders
Posted by: titus - 05-10-2018, 10:00 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (5)

I can't browse my local folders within Gimp 2.10.
Therefore opening files from different folders or saving to a folder of my choice is impossible.
Don't have this problem with Gimp 2.8, neither had this problem with all previous versions.
Dragging pictures into Gimp works but it is cumbersome to say the least.
Wonder that no-one mentioned this before or am I missing something? Huh
I tested with Gimp 2.10.0 Rev 2 from portable apps.

Thanks in advance for any helpful hint.

Drop-down menus unreadable in dark theme (Solved)
Posted by: fernando - 05-10-2018, 08:39 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.10 - Replies (7)

Hi everyone.
I just updated from Gimp 2.8 to 2.10 and I'm loving the new sets of themes and icons available. Now, when using the dark theme, drop-down menus are unreadable because colors are very light gray over even lighter gray. Once you activate the menu and it drops to select an option, text changes to black, which is fine. In the screenshot you can see the desaturate window with the drop-down menu to choose among modes.
Is there a way to change this? I see themes and icons can be changed but I didn't see anything related to menus.
Thanks in advance!
