I think I have messed up my brushes.  I think some default brushes are missing and there may be some kind of corruption.  I also get an error when I try to refresh brushes.  I am using 2.8.14 on windows 8.1 I have pictures of the directories and the error message but this forum does not allow pictures to be posted.    

The error message is about not being able to write to some file.


Is there any way to put my brushes directories back to the default?

Is it possible to know the length of a path?

I had placed G'MIC in the Main Image Menu for convenience.  It has since stopped working and I would like to remove the G'MIC word from the menu.  Cannot find how to do that.  Thank you for your help in advance.

Hi everyone - this is my first post here. I"m really grateful that this forum exists, I think I'm going to need it big time for the next little while, at least.

Anyway, I just downloaded GIMP yesterday, and I'm slowly trying to learn it. The program is pretty huge. It looks about as complex as the CAD program that I am also learning, which has a lot of features.

So, my problem is that I am revising ? a black and white image. I am using a windows 7 version, btw. When I open the image that I saved, it has a dashed border around it (around the page). I don't know if that should be there or not, and I have forgotten what I did to even put it there -

Anyway, I opened my image, and selected a picture within the main image/page. I attempted to reset the contrast on this picture (which was within that page sized dashed border). I used the rectangular select tool to select the image (I don't know if that's the right way to do it, but it worked), then I adjusted the brightness and contrast of this smaller image, within the page. After adjusting, I noticed the dashed border around the smaller image was still moving. I hit ok, and it still was moving, so I closed the main image (closed the center window) to try to finalize/save the adjustment. When I reopened the main window (the image file), I noticed the image border of the smaller image was still flashing around, and there is still a dashed border around the outside of the page. Is this normal ? How do you stop it ? Do you stop it ? It looks to me like it's still in some kind of active mode, where it's still waiting for me to input a close command -

Anyway, if someone could please fill me in on this, that would be great. thanks in advance, Terry

Just registered in search of ... HELP!
I was happy with the grup_chfont.py plugin from the Gimp plugin repository: change font and/or size along a whole Group Layer. 
I dare say that anybody ever using the Gimp for maps/labeled graphics can understand the logic of
* put all your text layers (may easily grow to 20 or more) into a Group Layer to hide/show with one click
* copy said Group Layer and run a plugin to batch-change the font (and perhaps its size) 
* try the different settings on export.
The plugin worked fine until the last update to 2.8.2--then, error message--python cannot pickle ??
As python is over my head, I hope somebody can take a hand at fixing the code--while the Gimp plugin repository worked, I got the notion that such compatibility issues required often only slight changes in the code ... and lots of know-how to make them!
If anybody is interested, I am attaching the actual plugin--released under GNU General Public License v2--its author doesn't seem to be available in any recent forum.

First: sorry for my English.

Second: I made a terrain map with THIS, and I'd like to make biome map to Minecraft – Open Terrain Generator mod. This heightmap won't be accurate when OTG will regenerate the biomes, but it isn't problem yet. I'd like to make climate zones and I can change the colors of the biomes.
I thought I can make colored stripes and someway they will change the colors of the terrain, but I'm not sure what would be the best way. And of course I'd like to make less colors to work with them easier.

Do you know any tutorial? I'll try by my own, but I asked if you can help me.

Hi, What's the link to submit gimp enhancement requests?   Maybe these are already possible but here's what I'd love to see:

* Ability to switch active layer via most tools .  When working with dozens and dozens of layers it quickly gets difficult to be able to switch layers only through the layer window.   Much needed is a way to switch layers from the tools, like an alternate function on the move tool so that if you click a pixel that pixel's layer becomes active.  Thanks!!!!

* Ability to pick colors from inactive layers.  Currently, colors can only be picked from the active layer.  I want the ability to get the color of whatever pixel the mouse clicked over, without having to be on the same layer.  Thanks!!!!

* I need a subtle visual cue to alert me when something is selected.  I usually work with "View Current Selection" off - because it's distracting.  A subtle message like on the status bar or something would be awesome.  Thanks!

Again, maybe a new version of GIMP has these functions (I'm on 2.8.2).

Hello. I am having trouble with G'mic. The final result isn't the same as what I see in the preview window. It doesn't always happen, but often it does.

Hi all,

When I try to open or save files in GIMP 2.8.20 (and earlier versions) I get a popup that says "Cannot Read Contents of Folder"

I get this trying to open/save from/to different folders and I can't figure out how to fix it. Could someone help me please?

I'm not really new to GIMP, so I'm able to navigate around pretty well. Any help would be a huge boost. Thanks!
