3.02 Levels dialog and Sample points
Posted by: evogel99 - 04-30-2025, 08:58 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.99 & Gimp 3.0 - Replies (1)

Using sample points and the Levels dialog, I find that information is not getting updated

I am having a problem using sample points and getting the histogram initiated or updated in a Levels dialog.

1. (Often) I don't get a histogram when I initiate the Levels dialog
2. (sometimes) changing a channel level doesn't update the sample point display.

I have not figured out a way to force the updating to occur.

Has anyone else noticed this?

  Saving Interface Layout
Posted by: Papa Mouse - 04-30-2025, 07:48 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

How do I save my interface set-up ???

I have done some serious research about this on the net but I can’t find no answer.

eg : View Menu : Unchecking "Show Layer Boundary"
Next time I open Gimp … there is happily that yellow dotted line again. Angry

I found somewhere that Gimp saves this automagically by default but my Gimp does not do that.

I am working with Gimp since … today. (Nice program btw ... love it.) Smile

  GIMP 3 printing problem (?)
Posted by: dziadekles - 04-30-2025, 06:40 AM - Forum: Gimp 2.99 & Gimp 3.0 - Replies (4)

I just tried to produce custom paper profiles for Canon G660 (that will be G620 in the US if I am not mistaken). Calibrite ColorChecker Studio was used.
The monitor profile was created OK, so was the custom paper profile.
From GIMP - I printed the test image with ADOBE RGB color space. The print was OK, very close to the screen image, but one of the pictures in the test image displayed severe banding in a blue graduated sky. The test image was then converted to GIMP sRGB - same result. Finally - the test image was converted to the custom paper profile which was created.
This time - all was OK, no banding, nice colors as close to the screen as one could wish (with proper lighting, that is Smile

So - my question is:
Do I need to always convert any picture to the custom paper profile - before printing from GIMP? (BTW - the printer is using Relative Colorimetric setting, not perceptual).
Or - another question: is there something funny in GIMP color conversions? Or with blue colors? Or - is Canon striking again? (banding was evident even if original Canon printer profiles were used).

I am a little bit confused here (but at least I have a workaround).

This is a screenshot of the banding (colors are funny as the scanner is...well...you know). On the left - image w/o banding, on the right - an example of banding.

Can't make an animated GIF with the layers grouped to apply fx
Posted by: Khalaris - 04-29-2025, 07:30 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.99 & Gimp 3.0 - Replies (6)

I was so excited to use layer group fx to make nice looking animated gifs, but when I try to export, the dialogue tells me it can't animate because there's only one layer Sad

Is there a way to apply the fx of the layer group to all layers? Then I could remove the group and export normally.
Or maybe make the export function resolve the grouped layers with their fx?

New user here. 'Just bought a new house and would like to use Gimp to experiment with alternative colors for walls, crown molding, wainscoting, carpet, etc. Nothing more. Sample photo attached.

Which feature(s) do I use?

  ofn3-layer-tiles and ofn3-tiles
Posted by: Ofnuts - 04-27-2025, 02:25 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (1)

In Gimp v2, I have two separate scripts, ofn-tiles and ofn-layer-tiles. The former create/splits a layer from/to individual files, and the latter creates create/splits a layer from/to other layers.

Needless to say there is a lot of common code.

So the question: should I keep the two scripts separate or should they be a single script with two menu entries?

One can also consider that ofn-tiles is pretty much ofn-layer-tiles with ofn-export-layers.

Sad Preset Missing after Update - Help me Find!
Posted by: 91920 - 04-27-2025, 09:58 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

Hi folks

Wondering if anyone could help me recover a saved filter preset.

I recently updated from GIMP 2.10.22 to 3.0.2 on Windows 10. Since then, I've discovered that one particular preset I had made for a distortion filter (Waves) no longer appears from the drop down list. An earlier preset I saved is there, but it is not the one I need.

I have not been able to exactly recreate the settings of the missing preset and require it to replicate some effects and ensure continuity across different files.

Any ideas/suggestions for recovering the missing preset would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks a lot Smile

  ofn3-resource-manager
Posted by: Ofnuts - 04-26-2025, 09:37 PM - Forum: Extending the GIMP - Replies (5)

A partial rewrite and conversion of the ofn-addon-manager for Gimp v3

Some changes:

  • No longer supports scripts (who has so many scripts anyway)
  • INI file syntax is a bit different to take advantage of Python3 capabilities
  • Always activates collections as directories
  • Not longer explicitly maintains a list of activated collections or resources. A folder in the active Gimp folder that has the same name as one in the storage folder is considered to be the activated  instance.
Plugin is here (note: inaugurating new "management" section).

Enjoy.

  Look of Toolbox>
Posted by: FransHarderwijk - 04-26-2025, 06:54 PM - Forum: Gimp 2.99 & Gimp 3.0 - Replies (4)

Hi here,

I use Gimp 3.0 in Windows on a Lenovo Thinkpad W520 laptop since two days.
I previously used older Gimp-versions as a novice.

Tiny problem (perhaps a simple question):
I don't like the way my Tool Options dialog looks. See the attachment.
I don't like the 'hand' shaped cursor (too big and dark) and the black popup.

I cannot find what to change in Edit>Prefecences>...
My Interface>Theme is System.
My Interface>Icon Theme is Legacy.

Thanks in advance for advice.

Regards, Frans van Zelm
