Replacing over exposed sky in a photo
Posted by: gazza - 05-29-2023, 04:26 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (9)

I am trying to replace the "Wishy Washy" sky in the attached photo. Unfortuately I cannot download a better photo, but the grasses and the rock are great colours but the sky is overexposed. Could someone please point me in direction of a method of the correct way to do this.  I have tried a few methods in You Tube but with not very much success.
Many Thanks
Gary

  Problem installing Resynthesizer
Posted by: mn124700 - 05-28-2023, 02:55 PM - Forum: OSX - Replies (1)

I'm trying to install Resynthesizer in GIMP 2.10.34 on OSX Ventura.  It appears I'm running into a problem with the libintl library.  I have libintl.8.dylib installed on my system, but not libintl.9.dylib, and it seems the latter is required.  As a workaround (based on a web article), I tried creating a symlink (ln -s libintl.8.dylib libintl.9.dylib), but OSX reports "operation not permitted" (even with sudo).

Any suggestions on how to get Resynthesizer working?  It sounds like a great package.

Thanks,
Eric

Can someone tell me now to export an alpha channel image and keep the alpha channel, when I save it, it keeps the r,g,b and removes the alpha.
I'm trying to save it as a 8bit RGB PNG

  two subjects...transform & text
Posted by: Terry50 - 05-24-2023, 11:27 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (2)

Hello Gimp Users,
I used to hold shift down if I wanted the transform tool to move only one way….   Now I have to push the shift button to resize both    horizontal   and vertlcal.  I downloaded the latest Gimp.  Is there a preference I can fix ?

This is a second question.   Many times a person will answer the first question and not  read the second.
Also,  a second unrelated problem I have is with the text tool.    The “return” button doesn’t work.   It won’t go to the second line.   I have to do another text tool for the next line.

  Opaque?

Is there any way to make a bucket fill color appear more opaque? I'm trying to make a section of painted steel look more realistic.

Thanks!

Can't Install ANY version of GIMP
Posted by: AngelH - 05-23-2023, 09:35 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (5)

Microsoft reinstalled windows last month so I'm having to reinstall everything!

Last week I think I had version GIMP 2.10.30? It said there was an upgrade so I installed version 2.10.34.

Half the time it would open without the tools showing in the usual top left corner or anywhere else. I'd reopen and it would show up just fine.

Today I got tired of it and decided to reinstall an older version. A couple of years ago I had a really nice version that worked well and even let me use my Redfield plugins without any trouble. So today I installed version 2.8.14 - I couldn't even choose the size of the icons, so I uninstalled and downloaded a version up.

There were a couple similar versions without the options to change the size of the icons, so again they were uninstalled and the next one installed.

Then I got a version that I could change the icon sizes on but when it started up it gave me error messages, as did the next few versions.

I've tried installing as the Administrator. I've tried troubleshooting the compatibility option. It told me I needed something newer than Windows 7. Since I'm running Windows 10 that wasn't any help.

I'm now at version 2.10.32 and when I try to open GIMP it runs, then gives me about 5 error messages such as"
Can't proceed because libicuuc72.dll was not found. Reinstalling may fix it. (my wording).

Then it opens up the program. I don't want to deal with those errors every time I use GIMP. I open it up on average about 7 times a day.

Each version for about the last 5 versions has given me the same error messages.

I've restarted the computer several times. Reinstalled the version as the error message suggested.

Version 2.10.34 is the one that wasn't working right, so I've run out of versions to try.

I don't know what else to try.     Huh

I can use Photoshop Elements, but for main part I prefer to use GIMP.

Matching 2 Images (Layers) With Selected Points
Posted by: skip671 - 05-23-2023, 02:51 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (5)

I have 2 images (maps).  One is a scale image from Google Maps.  The other is an historic map that is not to scale.  There are certain points of reference on each map that can be used to pull the historic map close to scale and provide reference to other points between the two maps.  Is there a way to link 2 images with "points" on each and transform one of the two base on the those links?
