There is an implementation of contrast limited adaptative histogram equalization on Imagej (Plugins =>Filter => Enhance Local Contrast) with settings for blocksize, histogram bins, max slope.
I don't know equivalent action in Gimp, similar but not the same are tone mapping algorithm like Mantiuk, Reinhard, fattal. Maybe this algorithm can be ported to Gimp as plugin, filter or Gegl action.
On some picture it can be useful to have a better contrast with blocksize to match length of picture and smaller or to get drawing effect with very smaller blocksize and histogram bins.
Here for instance a 387x259 photo with Imagej and different settings :
First row Original - settings blocksize 387, histogram bins 256, max slope 3 Second row 60/60/3 30/30/3
Edits in Photoshop such as Exposure, Curves, and Hue apply a layer over the original image making it a more versatile experience, to where reordering edit layers can produce a different outcome, and allowing one to constantly return to one specific edit after making other ones and altering it. Does GIMP work in this fashion? Or is it something too advanced for me to figure out?
I'm using GIMP through the Linux addition to my Chromebook as a photo editor since I obviously cannot install Photoshop or want to pay for it. I have no issue doing the basics and I know how layers and their opacities work but it's pretty much anything in the Color tab that I don't understand to do in a versatile manner similar to Photoshop.
I created an animation GIF which has 500 frames. It is taking too long to unoptimize and use interleave layer plugin. Even after waiting to complete the plugin execution, When trying to save it, GIMP freezes with message "not responding".
I have enough space on my disk to save the file. The final file size is about 1.5 GB.
Any pointers on how to improve the performance would be helpful.
Hey, y'all. So, from this video game box art case cover, I have to copy the word "Trilogy" and paste it. Then I should rename "Remastered" as well. So that way, the same texts and colors I wanna keep them like that is to type it for myself. Do you know how to get into it?
I need the effect you see in the image for pictures, the original idea is to use a cutting plotter ...I tried lots of options and I need to know if there is any plugin that could give me that kind of result.
Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks a lot
Best regards

For some reason I can't post in Gimp 2.10 forum... ?
I make a new layer. I add an image.
It stays as a 'floating layer' or something.
I can't move it!!
I somehow, after clicking like, mad turn it into a layer.
Sometimes, I can now move it. Other times... I can't!!
What am I doing wrong???
Text layer: I make a new text layer.
Now... I can't move it.
There seems to be some other empty box that gets moved when I use the move tool.
To speed up opening, I'd like to delete some plugins. I probably don't need all of them. But which to delete?
Does anyone know of a general guide to GIMP plugins? I mean a list of all or most plugins, with information as to what each one does, which ones are essential and which optional, and so on?
